"I checked out 4 different clubs before deciding to join SFTM. The caliber of the speakers, level of
professionalism and diversity in speech topics were astonishing. Members come from a wide breadth of
professional and personal experiences, making this the perfect club for building professional ties
and cultivating friendships. Not only are the members smart, they are also warm and genuine. People
are what make up the character and dynamics of a club. SFTM was simply the perfect fit for me."
"Over my years at Toastmasters I have belonged to numerous clubs and thought
they were all very similar. This all changed the day I first visited San Francisco Toastmasters. I was struck by
the quality of the speakers, and the professionalism of the officers. The club had a great mix of young
professionals, experienced members and people from very different backgrounds... But most importantly,
people there seemed to have more fun, more camaraderie than in any clubs I had visited before. SF Toastmasters is
more than a club: it is a true community. The social events, the networking opportunities, the leadership ... it
was all there, along with an excellent level of public speaking. I knew this was my new home club. Have been with
the club ever since and it only gets better! "
"The first time I walked into the vibrant room on the 7th Floor of the Charles Schwab building (@ Fremont & Howard) I was at first a bit intimidated, but also felt a rush of energy! To really gain and grow in a Toastmaster's experience, you need to be associated with a club that is fresh, constantly innovating, inspiring and who make you feel comfortable to be yourself and learn! SFTM has that and more! One of the better decisions of my life, for sure. I've made measurable improvements with public speaking ... and I've also made friends for life here :-) " - Ranjani Shanker, member since May 2010, entrepreneur and marketing specialist
"Many people who join Toastmasters are looking to improve their public speaking skills, and also overcome their fear of public speaking. In my case, that fear led me to avoid public speaking whenever possible, and to do poorly when speaking was unavoidable. Toastmasters is well-known as an organization and method for coming to grips with those fears and greatly improving public speaking skills. I put it off too long. When a comment on a job review finally pushed me to join, I was fortunate to choose San Francisco Toastmasters, which year after year excels as one of the best Toastmasters clubs anywhere. After many years with the club, I've reaped more benefits from my membership in San Francisco Toastmasters than I would have thought possible. I step up to career challenges, and actually look forward to public speaking opportunities of all sorts. I've had so many opportunities to develop leadership skills, and to flourish and learn as a member of a community of friends. Now that public speaking is not such an obstacle, I find great rewards in mentoring others to achieve the same kinds of results. And I'm truly humbled and amazed to see the fantastic progress that our members make. My membership has been very rewarding, on many levels." - Terry Joyce, Member since May 2007
"Being a San Francisco Toastmaster (SFTM) is both an incredible experience and terrifying! It's terrifying in the
sense that being involved with this club requires participation in an activity that a majority of the population
avoids; public speaking. But speaking to a crowd is only intimidating when it remains in the unknown and you never
give it a shot. At SFTM, we pride ourselves on being such an open and welcoming club, that speaking before a crowd
no longer becomes scary, but becomes fun and entertaining! The support and encouragement we provide one another is
unmatched. And when you're surrounded by so many people who only wish to see you succeed, it's difficult to feel
anything short of pride to be a part of this community. "
