"I wanted to join a Toastmasters to improve my presentation skills and found San Francisco Toastmasters Club, the friendliest club among four that I visited in the area. I was afraid to speak in front of people because I am not a native English speaker and I felt my English was not good enough. In a few months after I joined Toastmasters, my colleagues and club members told me that my public speaking skills dramatically improved. I also enjoy getting feedback about my speeches where I need to improve upon for my future speeches. I love Toastmasters because members are very supportive and it is a safe place to make mistakes."
"San Francisco Toastmasters has a convenient location, meeting time … and a great bunch of folks. Our membership is varied, and new members are joining all the time. Now, beyond the positive skill-building results, I have many new friends! Many people who join Toastmasters are looking to improve their public speaking skills, and also overcome their fear of public speaking. In my case, that fear was extreme, causing me to avoid public speaking whenever possible and to really suffer when such occasions were unavoidable. After a year in Toastmasters, I have been able to reduce that anxiety considerably, so that I really look forward to speaking opportunities. I simply did the suggested exercise speeches at my own pace, regularly attending meetings and trying the various skill-building roles the meeting format offers up to all participants. Everyone has remarked on how my verbal communication skills have improved, in both formal speaking opportunities and in everyday conversation. I am already confidently stepping up to career challenges that greatly exceed what I would have tackled a year ago." - Terry Joyce, Member since May 2007
"I had thought about joining Toastmasters for years but just never got around to attending a meeting. Then I listed Toastmasters as a goal on my annual performance review and discovered San Francisco Toastmasters. My main objective was to overcome nervousness when speaking in front of a group. As a member for a year now, I can honestly say that I have not only overcome nervousness but am well on my way to considering public speaking as a core strength." .
